Day 3A - Road Tripper Observations / by Judson Bartlett

Even though we have seen some neat places and had some fun, the trip so far has been about daily mileage. The kids have been doing really well with the travel. We are averaging about 275 miles between pit stops and given that that is my typical tank range in the Forester, I’m guessing that’s not a coincidence. Of course, there’s driver endurance to consider also. Near Lansing, MI yesterday I was feeling a bit weary, so we pulled into a rest stop, the kids reclined their seats and I laid on the platform in the back for a quick power nap. Twenty minutes later and we were all recharged and good for the next 6 hours.

Adjusted for inflation, Diesel fuel is at a historic low. Our last tank was $2.34/gal. It’s pretty easy to justify the occasional night in a hotel when you calculate the money we have saved on fuel by doing the trip this year instead of last year.
